Grandest Rounds Announcement Mailing List

The Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine:

ZOOM GRANDEST ROUNDS is a 12 month comprehensive program providing an in-depth coverage of the 12 major topics in Urology: Trauma and GU Imaging, GU ONCOLOGY: Kidney and Renal Pelvis, GU ONCOLOGY: Bladder and Ureter, GU ONCOLOGY: Prostate and Testis, Sexual Dysfunction – Infertility – Andrology, Urolithiasis, PEDIATRIC UROLOGY: Embryology-Congenital Anomalies, Inflammation-Infection, Neurourology-Female Urology, Endocrinology-Adrenal Pathology, Transplantation-Renal Physiology, Urinary Tract Obstruction – Geriatric Urology.

Each month is dedicated to one of the aforementioned 12 topics. During the month, all lectures, presented by invited lecturers or UCI faculty/residents, are focused on the topic of the month. Invited lecturers, coming from all over North America, are well recognized experts in the topic of the month. Annually, there are 40-50 invited ZOOM lecturers. Each lecture is followed with a question-and-answer period as well as a smartphone administered KAHOOTS multiple choice session, challenging participants to test their knowledge while providing presenters with the opportunity to further expound on key points from their lecture. All participants also receive “free” CME credits provided they complete an online evaluation form at the end of the session. In addition, case presentations are similarly focused on the topic of the month in order to add a degree of practical clinical relevance.

Two new features were added to the schedule last year: semi-live surgical demonstrations and a Life Legends’ Lecture series. The former consists of a master surgeon providing procedural details from the start to the finish of a specific surgery, in line with the topic of the month. The latter showcases some of the most renown senior urologists, providing an opportunity for them to impart the wisdom gained from an acclaimed career.

In 2015, the Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine, became the first Urology program in the country to employ a cyber platform (SKYPE) for weekly grand rounds, showcasing outstanding lectures from experts throughout North America. Presently, each Monday from 5-7PM (Pacific Coast Time), upwards of 100 urologists and health care professionals from 29 states and 21 countries are in attendance for UCI Department of Urology’s ZOOM Grandest Rounds.
